Septimius
Severus, born in 145 or 146 AD, was a Roman 'eques'. In
the Middle Ages an eques would be called a 'knight' . He
came from the African city of Leptis Magna. In 190 AD he
became consul. After that, he was a senator. When
Commodus, emperor of the Roman Empire from 180 till 192
AD, died, he was appointed governor and commander of the
armies in Pannonia. Pannonia is roughly present-day
Czechia.
